The Placid Pet, Inc. assumes an enormous responsibility and liability in keeping client keys safe. We take this aspect of our job very seriously.

1) Each key we are provided is immediately tagged with a plastic colored tag.  On this tag we write the name of your pets, and no other identifying information.  We will not keep a key that has a tag that has a client's last name or address on it -- the tag must be removed.

2) We request that clients provide two (2) sets of keys -- one for The Placid Pet main office, and one for the primary pet care provider.  Not all clients participate in the program, but it is highly recommended to prevent interruption in service:
  • If the primary pet care provider were to lose the key, a copy would immediately be available from the main office.
  • If the primary pet sitter is unable to get to a client's home due to incliment weather (for example, if your pet sitter lives in Sudden Valley and was unable to get into Bellingham), then a back-up pet sitter could still access the key from The Placid Pet's main.
3) The Placid Pet purchases, for each staff member, a carabineer (the little rock-climbing gadget) and lock box.  The carabineer is for client keys, and it hooks easily to a regular key chain.  At the start of a work day, a staff member takes only the client keys needed for that day from the lock box, and puts the keys on the carabineer (the key tag loops just slip right onto the carabineer).  At the end of the day, the staff member takes the client keys off the carabineer and puts them back into the lock box.
