"I am very impressed with your service and my cat's response to Tresa was really out of character for him--she has the right touch! I am sure I will be booking future dates. This is the first time I've ever had anyone other than family and close friends take care of one of my critters."

  • Aggressive Marketing
  • Insurance/Bonding/Licensing

  • $100 6-Month Bonus
Skills & Requirements
The right candidate will possess a common sense, pro-active, impeccably honest personality. He/she must love animals, especially dogs. This is a people job that deals with animals; thus the candidate should be neat, well-spoken and be able to deal with clients of all strata. The right person must have his/her own reliable transportation and proof of automobile insurance.  This person will also have and maintain, at their own expense, an off-site computer with Internet access. Cell phone is desirable.  Qualified candidates will be available on a 7-day a week basis including overnight.  Holiday and Weekend work is a must and he/she must be able to do detailed, accurate self-directed work.

Extensive criminal and driving background checks, as well as reference checks, will be completed prior to an offer of employment.

New employees are expected to complete a Pet First Aid/CPR class, and basic Dog Training course, within the first 6 months of employment.

Some higher education (college level) required.

Professional pet care frequently involves:
  • Walking or hiking for extended periods of time -- 30 minutes or more.
  • Upper body strength sufficient to control a 50-pound dog on-leash.
  • Bending at the waist and knees.
  • The ability to lift 20 pounds or more.
  • Exposure to biohazards including feces, urine, blood and cleaning solvents.
  • Exposure to a variety of sources of common allergies including pet hair, pet dander, hay and other types of pet bedding.
  • Exposure to "the elements" -- rain, snow, sleet, direct sun, heat, mud -- you name it.
Desired Skills & Experience
  • College degree (Associates, Bachelors, Masters)
  • Previous professional pet-sitting experience
  • Veterinary or animal hospice experience
  • Experience caring for horses
A snapshot of the potential ideal candidate:
  • A part-time or full-time professional (in any field) with a flexible work schedule; or
  • A graduate student who has hours available for work during weekdays, evenings and on the weekends; or
  • A retiree who may want to specialize in pet sitting or overnight pet sitting for clients in their area; and/or
Plus....
  • Someone who has proven their ability to work with human customers as a volunteer or as a professional.
  • Someone with years of experience caring for their own pets, who occasionally provides care for pets belonging to friends or family. (Professional or volunteer experience with a veterinarians office or animal shelter is a big plus!)
  • A smart and trust-worthy person with loads of common sense and problem-solving skills.
  • Someone who is interested in occasional part-time work that "feeds the soul" and provides the perfect reason to get out of the house or office (and away from the computer and books!) every now and then.
We also welcome past or current professional pet sitters to apply -- those who enjoy providing professional pet care, and are good at it, but who don't like the extensive bookkeeping and costs of keeping an individual pet sitting business afloat.

To Apply:  Please send an e-mail to info@placidpets.com, and include:

1) A cover letter that includes a formal Statement of Interest.
2) Your resume.

If attaching documents to your e-mail, please send only Microsoft Word  (*.doc) or text (*.txt) files.

Once your cover letter and resume have been reviewed,
we will contact you via phone or e-mail within 3 weeks.

Thank you for your interest in The Placid Pet!
